1 box brown sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
1 c. Crisco or butter
1 stick of margarine
5 large eggs
1 c. milk
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. maple flavoring
1 c. chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 325º
1. Cream sugars, shortening, and butter.
2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
3. Add milk and flour alternately, beating well after each addition.
4. Add baking powder, salt, and flavorings.
5. Stir in chopped pecans.
6. Pour into large tube pan sprayed with Pam. Bake at 325º for 1 1/2 hours. *Do not open oven before cooking time is up.

Growing up in Atlanta, our family would travel to Dahlonega, Georgia to eat at the Smith House. This must have been a cake they made and she managed to get the recipe.
