1 cup sugar
1 cup shortening
1 egg
2 cups flour
1 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, shortening, and egg until smooth. Add remaining ingredients and divide the dough into 2 equal amounts. Place each amount of dough on separate sheets of wax paper and shape into 2 long logs. Cut about 1/8" thick slices (the thinner, the better) and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350º until very light brown.
