2 egg whites

1 cup sugar
1/8 tsp. salt

1/8 tsp cream of tartar (just a pinch!)

1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

2 pints heavy cream

1/4 lb. bakers sweet chocolate

Directions:
Directions:
Beat egg whites till foamy. Add salt, cream of tartar, vanilla. Then add sugar gradually and beat until stiff. When very stiff, gently fold in chopped nuts. Pour into buttered 8" pie plate and bake at 275 for 45 - 55 min. Leave in oven to cool for 45 min. Add 3 tbl. hot water to chocolate and melt in double boiler ( or in microwave). When chocolate cools, add 1 tsp. vanilla. Whip cream and add fold in cooled chocolate. Pour into crust and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
