3/4 c. shortening (margarine)
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. molasses
2 tsp. soda
1/2 to 1 tsp. cloves to taste
1 tsp. ginger
2 c. sifted all purpose flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening, sugar and egg. Add molasses and then dry ingredients. Mix well. Pinch off pieces the size of a marble or thumbnail. Roll in sugar, then press flat with finger. Place 2 to 3 inches apart on cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes at 325º.
