"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

1 c. pecans
1 T. butter or margarine

1 c. white sugar.

Directions:
Directions:
First, bake a devil's food chocolate cake mix using 2 round or square pans. Cool.

Pecan Filling:
Stir all the above ingredients together in a small sauce pan. Turn on low. Cook until very think and spreadable. Stir often. Set aside to cool.

Florine's Butter Icing:
Mix the above ingredients in a small sauce pan together before turning on heat. Stir out the lumps. Put on very low heat. Cook slowly stirring constantly. Keep stirring and working on making it smooth. This will scorch easily so continue stirring. Will get think real fast. Cook until you can no longer beat by hand with a whisk. Set aside to cool. In mixing bowl, beat together 1/2 c. Crisco, 1 stick butter or margarine, and 1 c. white sugar. Turn on high and beat for 12-14 minutes. Stir often so mixes well. Turn down to low and add your flour mixture that you cooked on the stove (completely cooled) small amounts at a time. Mix and stir until you have mixed both together. Add 1 tsp. almond flavoring. Don't put too much flavoring or the icing will get too soft and runny.

Take 1 layer of the cake and put on plate. Put pecan filling on and put the other layer on. Ice with the butter icing. Top with fresh pecans.
