1 c. navy beans
water
1 tsp. salt
5 tbsp. sugar
bacon - or other smoked meat
cream or 1 can of carnation milk

Directions:
Directions:
Put beans in pot and cover 1" over beans and soak overnight. In the morning put on to boil. Cold water to cover beans adding 1 tsp. salt. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to low. Cook until tender, about an hour. Drain off water. Put in baking dish and add 5 tbsp. sugar; stir well and put smoked meat or bacon on top. Pour cream or carnation milk on until it comes to the top of the beans. This is usually a small can of carnation milk. Bake 30 minutes at 350º.
