Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup milk
3 eggs (beat egg whites till stiff, add 1 egg yoke at a time
2 sticks oleo (most of us remember oleo, butter works too)
1/2 tsp. salt
3 level tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
pinch baking soda (Mother never measured any ingredients)
enough plain flour to make thick (add little at time)
2 tbsp. mayonnaise (keeps from drying out)

Directions:
Directions:
bake 350º, Mother always made this in black skillet with little butter (oleo) &
flour in the skiller before pouring in the batter. Mostly likely heated the skillet
before pouring in batter.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
By baking in black skillet, the edges would be little chrisp (yum) Mother would
split the later of cake while still warm & spread homemade jelly in between the
layers. O my delicious. You'll remember Granny when you bake this cake.
