Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
“My father owned and operated the Curly Q restaurant at 125 East Lynn Street, downtown Columbus, Ohio. I do not ever remember my mother cooking a meal, and when I married I could cook eggs, Welch Rabbit (I learned in 7th grade Home Ec), and open a can of soup. Dan’s cooking talents were no better because his mother was the best cook ever and he never did anything in a kitchen but eat. The first evening we came home from work and fixed our first meal it really was a joke, sad but funny. I started a list of his favorite meals that I would ask his mother for help with and the first things he said, “you have to learn to make Vanilla Strips”. This is her recipe in her handwriting. Note, she said you never add flour to the Vanilla Strips. I have since found recipes for Vanilla Strips, and there is flour listed. The original recipes from Europe never used flour. I suspect that is a commercial way of cutting the cost of the cookie.” Carole
