1 c. white sugar
1 c. shortening
1 egg
4 tbsp. molasses
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, shortening, and egg. Add molasses, ginger, cinnamon and cloves and mix well. Add flour, baking soda and salt and mix well. Shape dough into balls. Flatten balls with the flat bottom of a drinking glass dipped in water and then sugar. Bake 8-10 minutes at 350.
