1/2 cup walnuts, toasted
1/2 cup celery, thinly sliced
1/2 cup red seedless grapes. cut in half
1 sweet apple cored and chopped
3 T mayonnaise
1 T fresh lemon juice
salt
pepper
lettuce leaves

Directions:

Whisk mayonnaise and lemon together and add 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper. Add rest of ingredients. Serve over a bed of lettuce.

There are dozens of variations on the Waldorf Salad, the most popular being; using raisins instead of grapes, using whipped cream or yogurt with or instead of the mayonnaise and of course sprinkling the top with paprika. The above recipe is the "official" Waldorf recipe but change it to your own personal preferences and tastes.

The first Waldorf Salad was created in 1893 by the maitre d' hotel of the Waldorf Astoria. The original salad only consisted of diced red-skinned apples, celery and mayonnaise. Walnuts were added later.
