1 lb. butter or margarine, melted and cooled
2 tsp. baking soda
1 lb. ricotta cheese
4 eggs
4 tsp. anisette or anise extract
8 cups flour
2 cups sugar
2 tsp. salt
4 tsp. baking powder

Frosting:
½ lb. confectioner’s sugar
2-3 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. or more to taste anise oil or anisette

Mix all ingredients together. Roll into 1 inch balls and place on cookie sheet, ungreased, 1 inch apart. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Cool and frost with vanilla frosting. Sprinkle with nonpareils. Anisette extract can be used in frosting.

Frosting:
Mix all together. If too thin, add more sugar, if too thick add more milk. Dip top of cookie in frosting and place on waxed paper to dry. While still wet, sprinkle with colored sugars or nonpareils. When thoroughly dry, place in container with waxed paper between layers.
