1 c. Crisco, part butter
2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1/2 c. sour milk or buttermilk
1 t. vanilla
3 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 1/2 c. candied fruits cut in half (pineapple, cherries. I do not use citron)
2 c. dates, cut up
1/1/2 c. pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, sugar and eggs. Add buttermilk and vanilla.
Blend dry ingredients and add to butter mixture. Stir in nuts and fruits.
Chill 1 hour.
Heat oven to 400º. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough about 2" apart on greased baking sheet.
Bake 8-10 minutes until no imprint remains when lightly touched.
Store in air tight container.
