3 cups sifted regular flour
1 cup shortening or lard
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Directions:
Combine in a large bowl; flour and shortening or lard. Mix with a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture looks like coarse cornmeal. Combine in another bowl; eggs and sugar, beat until light. Add milk, baking soda, nutmeg and salt. Mix until well blended. Add to flour mixture. Roll out a section at a time, to a thickness of 1/4 inch. Cut with a floured cookie cutter into desired shapes. Place on greased cooked sheet. Sprinkle or decorate with nuts, candied fruit or chocolate sprinkles. Bake at 375ºF for 8 to 10 minutes, or until cookies are a light golden brown.
