1 cup light brown sugar
2 cups cold whole milk
3 egg (yolks and whites separated)
3 tbsp flour or 2 tbsp cornstarch
1/4 cup butter
1 tsp vanilla
5 tbsp white sugar
baked 9" pie crust, cooled

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar and butter together in sauce pan over medium heat. Once melted, remove from heat. Mix milk, egg yolks and flour in separate bowl. Add to sugar/butter mixture stir constantly over medium low heat until thickened (20-30+ minutes). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Fill crust. Beat egg whites until soft, then add 5 tablespoons sugar gradually. Beat to stiff peaks. Top pie. Brown in 350 ºF oven for 12 to 15 minutes.

Don Hurd modified original recipe. Reduced brown sugar from 1 1/2 cups and changed 1 1/2 cups water to 2 cups milk.
