3 ounce cream cheese
1 1/2 sticks butter
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg yolk

Directions:

1. Soften cream cheese and butter and cream together.

2. Add all remaining ingredients. You will find it easier to mix if you knead together with a minimum of flour.

3. Shape in a ball or oval, wrap in wax paper, and place in ice box for several hours.

4. Cut dough in half, replace 1/2 in ice box while rolling other half to thickness desired.

5. Cut into rounds and top with filling - apricot, prune, poppy seed.

6. Bake at 350 degrees approximately 20 minutes, or until crust just begins to take a golden hue.

When I worked in Niles, IL, our manufacturing plant was in a Polish neighborhood, and we employed numerous people of Polish descent. I first enjoyed Kolace at one of our international carry-ins. I liked them so much, I asked Genowefa Bochenek for her recipe. I've been carrying it with me since way back when - - 1992.
