Family Memories from Esther: We would do our laundry at Grandma Caters. She taught us how to sort the colors. Great big boilers were heated on the wood stove and then she would empty them into the washing machine. We took our clean clothes home in the wagon. We would pull taffy after a ball game on Friday night and have cold bean sandwiches.
Grandma was so patient. How she tolerated “chopsticks” on the piano hundreds of times a day, I don’t know. It would also take her hours to get Wayne and Lois up from bed. She was the sweetest little lady. I never heard her say an unkind word to anyone. Her hair was up and twisted in a little knot flat on top of her head.
