syrup
1 1/2 Cup Sugar
1 1/2 Cup water
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 cup butter

6 apples (Granny Smith)

dough
2 Cups flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup Crisco
1/2 cup milk

apple mixture
1 cup brown sugar
cinnamon
nutmeg
1/4 additional butter

Directions:
Directions:
Make syrup of sugar, water, spices, add butter. Core and cut apples in fourths. Sift flower, salt and baking powder. Cut shortening into the dry ingredients. Mix well and add milk. Stir until moist. Roll dough 1/4 inch thick and cut in 5 inches squares. Arrange apple on square and sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg, and dot of butter. Fold edges and place in greased baking dish. Pour syrup over and bake at 375 degrees 35-45 minutes
