3/4 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 cups sifted flour
1 cup chopped pecans
2 tablespoons vanilla
Additional powdered sugar to coat baked cookies

Directions:
Directions:
Blend shortening, salt, butter, sugar and vanilla. Add flour and pecans. Drop or roll balls (about 1 inch) on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 325º The original recipe didn't give a time but at least 12 minutes until the cookies begin to brown lightly. These cookies don't expand much in the oven and they're best baked through.

Roll in powdered sugar while warm.
