1 quart strawberries (about 6 1/2 c) washed and hulled
1/4 c sugar

Biscuits:
2 c flour
1/3 c sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp baking soda
6 tbsp cold butter, cut into small pieces
3/4 c buttermilk
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp milk
1 tbsp sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Place berries in a large bowl. Sprinkle with sugar; toss to combine and set aside.

Preheat oven to 425º.

Prepare biscuits: Combine flour, 1/3 c sugar, baking powder, baking soda in large bowl. Using pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in butter until mixture is texture of course meal Make well in center. Mix together buttermilk and vanilla; stir into flour mixture just until ball forms.

Scrape dough onto well-floured surface; knead gently 5 or 6 times. Pat in 3/4" thickness; cut out into 3" rounds. Place rounds on baking sheet. Lightly brush milk over biscuits; sprinkle with a tablespoon of sugar.

Bake in 425º oven for 12-14 minutes until lightly golden. Cool on rack slightly. Split biscuits in half horizontally. Serve warm with berries and whipped cream if you wish.
