1 cup raisins (cooked until plump)
Use 1 cup of juice that the raisins were cooked in.
Add ½ cup shortening, melted in hot raisin juice.
Add 1 tsp. of soda while warm.

1 cup sugar
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 egg
2 cups flour
pinch salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 cup chopped nuts

Directions:

Pour or spread on a standard cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Ice with powdered sugar icing while still warm, if desired.
