2 cups raisins
1 cup water
4 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. nutmeg
1 cup shortening
1¾ cup sugar
½ cup nuts
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together flour and dry ingredients.

Bring raisins and water to a boil. Boil until raisins are plump. This takes approximately 3 minutes. Cream shortening and sugar until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Stir in raisins and remaining water. Gradually add flour mixture. Mix well after each addition. Stir in nuts.
Drop by teaspoonful about 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
