2 cups sifted flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
5 tbsp. solid shortening (Crisco)
1/2 cup cold milk
6 medium apples, pared, cored, and halved
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon

Sauce:
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 tbsp. flour
1/8 tsp. salt
1 1/2 cup hot water (flavor with 1 tsp. cinnamon)

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together. Cut in shortening, add milk, and mix to a smooth dough. Turn onto floured surface and divide into 12 portions. Roll each portion large enough to cover one apple half. Place an apple half on each piece of pastry. Mix sugar and cinnamon together. Spoon some of this into each core cavity. Moisten edges of pastry and bring up over apple. Seal edges. Place in greased baking dish. Pour sauce mix over dumplings. Bake at 350º about 40 minutes or until apples are tender and pastry is lightly browned. remove from oven. Serve with warm milk or cream.
