8 cups water
1 bundle of wild tea*:
(about 5 in.long and 1/2 in. diameter)
Plant names:
*Cota, Greenthread, Thelesperma.

Pour water in a large saucepan adding tea bundle. Bring to a boil then simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from pan when the liquid is a medium to dark red. Add honey or sugar to taste (though the tea tastes just fine on its own). Allow tea to cool slightly.

This is a natural remedy for sore throats and also used to dye the wool red for Navajo rugs. (So brush your teeth afterward!) It grows wild all over the reservation and as children, we made it a game to see who could bring back the most. We then would sit around laughing, putting them in bundles before they dried. Grandma Isabelle taught us well. Love you, Grimms! I Miss You So Much!
