3/4 cups shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
3 cups sifted cake flour
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1 cup milk
1/2 tsp. almond
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar. Add 1 egg at a time, beating after each. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and add alternately with milk. Add extracts. Bake in two 9" layer pans (greased). Oven 375ºF for 25 minutes.

Boiled frosting - boil together 1 cup sugar, 1/3 cup water and 1 tsp. vinegar to 238ºF (or until syrup spins a long thread when dropped from tip of spoon).Beat 2 egg whites stiff, gradually add syrup, beating constantly until frosting holds shape. Add 3/4 tsp. vanilla. Spread on cake and sprinkle generously with cocoanut.
