1 c. chopped dates
1 c. hot water
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. butter, softened
3/4 c.. sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
1 T. cocoa
pinch of salt
Topping:
1/2 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. walnuts, chopped
2 T. sugar

Directions:
Directions:
In a 2 cup measuring cup place chopped dates, hot water, and stir in baking soda; let stand for a few minutes. In a mixing bowl cream together the butter, sugar and then the eggs. In a small bowl combine the flour, cocoa and the salt. To the butter mixture, alternately add the liquid from the dates and the flour mixture until well blended. Then stir in the dates.
Pour into a 7X 11" pan, top with chips, walnuts and sugar. Bake at 350º for 40-45 minutes.
