5 cups of flour
2 cups of sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup sesame seeds (optional)
1 cup solid vegetable shortening
2 sticks butter
6 eggs

TOPPING
1 cup sesame seeds
egg wash or milk

DOUGH
Cream the shortening butter and sugar. Add the eggs to the mixture and beat. Mix in the flour and baking powder and knead the dough until it is smooth. Form the dough into a ball and place it in the refrigerator for one hour. You may add the optional sesame seeds in with the flour.

ASSEMBLY
Make 1/2” rolls and cut into sections about 5” long. Fold each piece into a braid and place on an un-greased baking sheet. Dip the top of the cookie into the milk or egg wash and dip it into the sesame seeds. The idea is just to lightly coat the top of the cookie with the sesame seeds. The seeds with stick to the top.

BAKE
Bake in a pre-heated oven at 350º F for about 10 minutes, until they are brown at the bottom.

NOTE: Cookies can be frozen for up to 2 months.
