2 tablespoons butter
2 medium carrots, sliced
1 small onion, chopped
1/2 cup uncooked lentils
2 cups vegetable tomato juice
2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans vegetable or chicken broth
3 medium (3 cups) potatoes, cubed 1/2 inch
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup frozen peas
4 ounces (1 cup) uncooked dried small pasta shells

Directions:
Directions:
In 4-quart saucepan melt butter; add carrots and onion. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until onion is crisply tender (2 to 3 minutes). Stir in all remaining ingredients except peas and pasta. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until mixture comes to a full boil (12 to 15 minutes). Reduce heat to medium low. Continue cooking, uncovered, allowing mixture to gently boil for 10 minutes. Stir in peas and pasta. Cover; continue cooking until lentils and pasta are tender (15 minutes).

Makes 6 servings.
