Recipe Summary
Prep Time: 40 minutes
Cook Time: 12-15 minutes at 375 degrees
Yield: 12 Dozen

8 cups flour
2 cups sugar
3 heaping tablespoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 stick butter
6 eggs
1 cup shortening
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons anisette extract (anisette oil is stronger and you should add a few drops at a time and taste the dough.)

Frosting
2 cups confectionary sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1 drop of lemon juice
1 or 2 drops of anise extract
Candy sprinkles (optional)
Food coloring (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the shortening, butter and sugar together. Add the eggs, milk, baking powder, salt and anisette. Add the flour and gradually allow the batter to mix evenly creating dough. Place the dough in the refrigerator for one hour.

Take pieces of the dough and make small balls about the size of a golf ball. Place them on a greased cookie sheet. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until they start to slightly turn brown on the top. Check the bottoms; they should be light brown. Allow to cool completely before frosting. Allow the frosting to harden which takes about one hour.

Note: These cookies can be frozen up to 2 months. If cookies are frozen, do not frost until they are thawed and you are ready to serve them.

Frosting:
Add lemon juice and anise to the confectionary sugar. Slowly add in the milk until all confectionary sugar is mixed in and frosting is smooth and thin. Frost each cookie by dipping the top in the frosting. Candy sprinkles should be added immediately after frosting, if desired. Place frosted cookies on counter or flat surface until frosting is hardened.
