1 t baking soda
1 c boiling water
1 c pitted dates (cut up)
3/4 c raisins
2 T soft butter
1 c sugar
1 t vanilla
1 egg
1 1/3 c sifted flour
3/4 c chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
pour soda and boiling water over raisins and dates. set aside. cream butter and sugar. add vanilla, then egg. beat well. add flour and mix. pour in fruit mixture (water included) and nuts. mix. bake in a buttered 9 X 5 inch loaf pan at 350 for 45 to 55 minutes
