2 pkg. yeast
1 cup lukewarm water
1 teaspoon sugar
1 cup milk, scalded and cooled
1/2 cup shortening (part butter)
2/3 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Grated rind and juice of 1/2 lemon
7 cups or more flour

Directions:

Mix all ingredients, gradually add flour. Knead until dough is smooth and elastic.
Roll 1/3" thick. Cut into donuts, let rise until light.
Fry in deep oil at 370º until brown. Turn once.
Frost with a thin powdered sugar glaze.

Grandma Loop was known as "Mom" to me. She made these wonderful yummy donuts as a treat to us. Sometimes we would get off the bus at her house and she would have these ready for us after school. I have some wonderful memories of time spent with Mom.
