1 7/8 cup boiling water
1 1/2 cups oatmeal
3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cup white sugar
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
3 eggs
3/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
2 1/4 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
Frosting:
1 cup sugar
3 T flour
1 1/2 cups milk
3 T butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 cup flaked coconut
1/2 to 1 cup nutmeats

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over oatmeal and let stand while mixing cake. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, salt and vanilla and beat well. Add oatmeal and beat until light. Sift together flour, soda and cinnamon and add to batter mixing well. Pour into a prepared 9" x 13" cake pan. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in 350º F oven until cake tests done. Cool on rack.
Meanwhile, combine sugar, flour, milk and butter for frosting in a medium pan. Cook until thick, stirring constantly to avoid scorching. Add vanilla, coconut and nutmeats, and spread over cake when cool.
