1 cup dates cut up
4 Tbsp butter
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 cup boiling water
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg beaten
1/2 cup nuts chopped
1 1/3 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Place dates in a large bowl. Add baking soda to boiling water and pour over dates in bowl. Set aside and let mixture stand 15 minutes.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream butter and sugar. Add the egg and mix well. Strain water from the date mixture into batter. Add flour, salt & baking powder and beat well. Add nuts, dates and combine until all ingredients are well mixed.

Pour the mixture into greased loaf pan. 325º for 60-70 minutes.

I got this recipe from my Grandma Trevor's neighbor Norma from Dalston Road back in the 1960's. As a little girl I remember my grandmother always having one of Sibley's little date & nut breads when we would visit. Great with cream cheese on it!
