Cookie Mixture

1 c brown sugar
1 c white sugar
1 c shortening
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
4 cups flour
1 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Filling
1c dates
1/3 c white sugar
1/3 c water
Dash of cinnamon
(Mom doubled the filling for each batch)

Prepare filling mixture first by boiling until thick and cooling
Prepare cookie mixture next
Cream sugars and shortening and add eggs and vanilla (beat well) Add flour and put mixture on wax paper(floured) and roll until 1/2 inch thick.. Add cooled date mixture and roll and refrigerate. When roll has cooled (about 2 hours), cut and bake at 3:50 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes.
