1 c shortening
1- 3 oz. package of cream cheese
1 c sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp finely grated orange rind
2 ½ c sifted all-purpose flour
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the shortening and cheese well. Add sugar gradually and continue creaming. Beat in egg yolk, vanilla extract and orange rind.

Sift flour and salt and cinnamon. Add to creamed mixture. Add food coloring if desired.

Fill a cookie press and form cookies on a cookie sheet and decorate with colored sugar, etc. depending on the shape of the cookie.

Bake at 350 F for 12-15 minutes.

Every year the Steinbrunner family celebrated Christmas together (seven brothers and sisters and their 25 children), and they all requested these cookies as part of the celebration.
