1 package dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/4 cup margarine
1 cup milk, scalded
2 eggs
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. lemon extract
1/4 tsp. mace (optional)
3 1/2 - 4 cups flour

1 cup soft margarine (2 sticks)

Directions:
Sprinkle yeast into 1/4 cup warm water, stir until dissolved. In a large bowl place sugar, salt, 1/4 cup margarine and scalded milk. Stir until blended and cool till lukewarm. Then in mixer beat 2 eggs. Add yeast mixture and scalded milk mixture, add vanilla, lemon extract, mace and 3 cups of flour. Beat until smooth, add enough additional flour to make a soft dough. Cover with a clean towel, let rise in warm place till doubled in bulk. On a lightly floured board roll dough into square 1/3 inch thick. Dot with 1 stick soft margarine and fold dough in half, seal edges. Dot with 2nd stick of soft margarine and fold over again, seal edges. Roll dough into square 1/3 inch thick again. Fold in 1/2 lengthwise then across. Repeat rolling and folding 3 more X. Place folded dough in greased bowl. Cover with towel and let stand 20 minutes. Roll out dough 1/3 inch thick and cut strips 8"x3/4". Hold one end of strip and twist into a rope with other hand, making a figure 8 or into rope rings. Cover and let rise till double.
Almond Filling
Cream together 1/4 cup butter, 1/4 cup sugar, blend in 1 egg, 1/2 cup (1/4 lb.) almond paste, 3/4 tsp. almond extract

Bake 450º for 8-10 minutes
