Bottom layer:
1 ½ c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
½ c. sugar
¼ c. shortening
1 egg
½ c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Topping:
¾ c. brown sugar
2 T. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 T. melted butter
½ c. nuts (Walnuts or Pecans)

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour once and resift with baking powder, salt and sugar. Cut in shortening until like fine corn meal. Blend in well beaten egg mixed with milk. Blend in vanilla, beating just enough to mix well.

Pour ½ of batter into 8x8 greased, floured pan.
Mix sugar flour and cinnamon together. Blend in butter and stir in nuts.

Sprinkle with half of topping. Add remaining batter and sprinkle remaining topping on top.
