½ c. soft shortening
1 ½ c. sugar (or brown sugar)
2 eggs
1 c. thick sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla (or maple)
½ tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Mix (cream) together first three ingredients. Stir in sour cream and vanilla. Then sift flour, soda, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the sifted mixture. Chill at least one hour. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on well greased baking sheet. Bake until delicately browned or just until when touched lightly with finger almost no imprint remains.

Bake at 400º for 8-10 min.

Notes from Gert Scholten: “I use brown sugar instead of white. I make the cookies larger. I also add one cup of nuts.”
