"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Directions:
Soak raisins or currants in hot water or juice to cover. Set aside. Mix together flour, sugar, butter, salt, & baking powder (I used 2 knives to cut the butter into the flour mixture). Mix egg and milk together. Add to dry ingredients. Drain raisins and knead into dough. Roll dough 1/2-inch thick and cut into rounds. Place on a greased baking sheet (I used parchment paper). Bake at 425º for 12 to 14 minutes. Serve with whipped butter and preserves.
