1 C. sugar
1/2 C. butter
1/2 C. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 C. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 425º.

Cream sugar, butter, shortening and eggs until light. Add vanilla and sifted dry ingredients. Form into walnut-sized balls. Dip top half in water then in sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press down in center with thumb. Put cherry half or nut on top. Bake 8 - 10 minutes.
