3/4 c. lard
3/4 c. butter
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
3 well beaten eggs
5 c. flour
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together the lard, butter, and sugars. Add the eggs and beat well. Sift flour, cloves, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt, and add to creamed mixture. Add nuts and vanilla. Knead with hands on a floured surface. Form into loaves, wrap, and refrigerate overnight. Slice thin and bake at 375º on a greased cookie sheet for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden.
