3 c. sugar
1 1/2 t. cinnamon
3/4 t. cloves
3 c. water
3 t. shortening
4 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 T. soda
1 1/2 lbs. raisins
1 c. mixed fruit
1/4 c. candied cherries
1 c. chopped nuts
1 1/2 T. baking powder
3/4 t. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Combine sugar, spices, water, shortening and raisins in saucepabn. Bring to a boil and boil for five minutes. Cool. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Add to cooled mixture. Add nuts and fruits. Mix well. Pour into two separate pans, a loaf pan and a 9x13 pan. Bake for approximately 2 hours at 300º

My grandmother, Icis Buchanan, made this fruitcake every year for Christmas. This fruitcake is very good unlike most fruitcakes.
