1-1/4 pound unsalted butter
2 cups sugar
9 whole eggs separated
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp.vanilla extract
3 cups cake flour sifted

Directions:
Directions:
Have ingredients at room temperature. In large bowl beat butter until fluffy.
Add 1-1/2 cups sugar and beat until very light, at least 5 minutes.
Add egg yolks two at a time, beating well after each addition. Add salt and vanilla and beat well. Beat egg whites in another large bowl until thick and glossy
(do not over beat).
Fold flour and half of egg whites into butter mixture using large spatula or spoon. When batter is well combined, fold in remaining egg whites.
Turn into prepared pan and bake until cake is crusty and golden about 1-1/2 hours.
Bake at 350º in greased tube pan
Use Grandma Zelek's white creamy frosting.
