4 1/2 c flour
3 T ginger
3 T cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 T baking soda
1/2 T cloves
1 T nutmeg
1 c shortening
1 c sugar
1 egg, unbeaten
1 c molasses
1 c cold water or coffee

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together: flour, ginger, cinnamon, salt, soda, cloves, and nutmeg.
Cream together: shortening and sugar.
Add egg and molasses.
Add water or coffee alternately with the dry ingredients, ending with flour.
Bake on lightly greased cookie sheet for 10 minutes in 425º oven.
