2 C. SUGAR
2 EGGS
2 TSP. VANILLA
5 1/2 C. FLOUR
2 TSP. BAKING POWDER
1 TSP. SALT
1 TSP. BAKING SODA
1/2 TSP. NUTMEG
1 C. BUTTERMILK

BLEND SUGAR, EGGS, VANILLA, SHORTENING, AND BUTTERMILK, ADD FLOUR OVER THIS MIXTURE AND PUT THE REST OF THE INGREDIENTS ON TOP OF THE FLOUR, MIX AROUND GOING DEEPER AND DEEPER UNTIL YOU HAVE DOUGH.. YOU MAY HAVE TO REFRIGERATE A LITTLE BEFORE ROLLING OUT THE DOUGH AND CUTTING OUT YOUR COOKIES. MAKE SURE THE ROLLING PIN AND SURFACE ARE WELL COVERED IN FLOUR. IT WILL NOT HURT THE COOKIES. BAKE AT 350 FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES.. CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE BOTTOM OF THE COOKIES ARE LIGHTLY TANNED BEFORE TAKING THEM OUT AS SOME OVENS HEAT DIFFERENTLY THAN OTHERS. THEY TASTE GREAT ON THEIR OWN OR FROSTED.
