1 cup butter (softened)
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 egg yolk
1/4 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c. flour
1 c. currant jelly
4 egg whites
3/4 c. ground walnuts
1 tsp. lemon flavoring
1/2 c. coarsely chopped nuts

Directions:

Cream butter. Stir in 1/2 c. sugar gradually. Beat until fluffy. Beat in egg yolk and salt. Stir in flour. Mix well. Pat into a thin layer in a 13 x 9 pan. Bake 350º for 10 minutes.
Beat jelly slightly with a fork and spread on dough. Whip egg whites until stiff and gradually add 1 c. sugar, continuing to whip until mixture stands in peaks. Fold in ground nuts and flavoring. Swirl over the jelly. Sprinkle with chopped nuts. Bake 25 min. until browned. Cool in pan and cut in 1 1/2" squares.
