Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 c. light brown sugar
2 sticks softened butter
2 eggs
l tsp. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. soda
4 c. flour
1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix butter and sugar, beat until fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs. Dissolve soda in buttermilk. Add the baking powder to the flour. Add the buttermilk and flour mixture alternately to the creamed butter/sugar mixture. Drop on baking sheet and bake at 350 until done to the touch. Makes a soft cake-like cookie. Ice with vanilla or a browned butter icing. Makes 4-5 dozen cookies. I scoop out the batter with a small ice cream scoop to make uniform-sized cookies. This recipe came from a cookbook I purchased in Holmes County, Ohio many years ago. (And I usually don't add nuts - just a personal preference).
