¾ cup shortening
1 ½ cups sugar
½ cup molasses
2 eggs
¼ cup warm water
1 Tb. baking soda
3 ½ cups flour
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. ginger
½ tsp. each of cloves, nutmeg and salt
¾ cup raisins
½ cup chopped walnuts


Directions:

Cream together shortening and sugar. Stir in molasses. Add eggs and beat well. Add warm water mixed with soda.
Sift together flour, cinnamon, ginger, clove, nutmeg and salt.
Arrange long narrow strips of mixture on greased cookie sheets. They can be sprinkled with sugar. Bake at 325˚ for 25 minutes. Cut in pieces when partly cooled and cool on a rack.
