1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter
2 tsp lemon juice
3 firm ripe pears (about 1/4 lb)

Buttermilk Cake

1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp pure vanilla
1 1/3 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
pinch salt
3/4 cup buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Over medium heat cook brown sugar, butter & lemon juice
until sugar is dissolved, about 2 min. - scrape onto greased &
parchment paper lined 9-inch square cake pan

Peel, core & half pears - cut into 1/4 inch wedges - arrange
overlapping slightly in pan

Cake
Beat butter with sugars until fluffy - beat in eggs & vanilla
Whisk flour, baking powder,soda & salt - stir into batter
alternately with buttermilk - beginning & ending with flour mixture
Pour over pears

Bake in 350F oven about 40min-let cool in pan 10 min
Invert onto serving plate-remove parchment paper
