2 c. sifted cake flour
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 c. seedless raisins, coarsely chopped
1/2 c. vegetable shortening
1 c. sugar
2 lrg. eggs, well beaten
1 can (15 ounce size) condensed tomato soup

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and spices together in a medium sized bowl. Toss the raisins with 1/4 cup of the flour mixture.

Cream the shortening in a large bowl. Add sugar gradually to the shortening, beating until light. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until thoroughly mixed. Add the flour mixture alternately with the soup to the egg mixture. Stir until smooth. Fold in the raisins.

Frost with Crème Frosting (see separate recipe)

Bake until toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean,

This was a cake that Grandma Jessie would make on special occasions. We would have to request for it ahead of time. Betty has the original old fashioned recipe and will give it to us at a later date.
