1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening (or butter)
1 egg
1/2 c. sweet milk
3 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Filling:
1 c. chopped dates or raisins
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. flour
1/2 c. water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening, add egg and beat. Then add rest of ingredients. Roll out and cut with a large cookie cutter, put filling on 1/2 of cookie and fold other half over to cover and pinch edges together - bake at 375 for 12 minutes.

Filling - mix all together and bring to a boil and cool a little before filling cookies.
